Natural Slate Roofing
Roofing with natural slate
Working as we do in the UK, we are spoilt for choice when it comes to accessing natural slate from a number of prestigious quarries. Burlington blue-grey, and Westmorland green slates are quarried right here in the Lake District, while Welsh, Cornish and Scottish slates are also well known for their quality and durability.
We also have the option of sourcing imported slate from Europe and farther afield if a particular texture or hue is required. This can also make using natural slate more affordable in comparison to British quarried slates. Any natural slate we use is tested to the BS EN 123261 standard to ensure that water absorption rates are low and longevity assured.
British and imported natural slates have many benefits including a very long lifespan and the fact that they are low maintenance and not susceptible to rot.
Slate roofing is a highly skilled job and we pride ourselves on our ability to create a characterful roof that fits the local vernacular and enhances the look of the building. If we are working on an existing roof we will always strive to reuse as much slate as possible and then match our natural slate to the size, hue and texture of the retained tiles.
